Stirling is preparing to introduce a new visitor levy, designed to support and enhance the local tourism economy.
From 14 June 2027, a small charge will apply to overnight stays across hotels, B&Bs, self-catering properties and other paid accommodation.
For small and medium-sized businesses, the change is expected to be manageable with some forward planning. Accommodation providers will collect the levy as part of the booking or payment process and pass it on through a national system.
Many businesses may find this can be smoothly integrated into existing pricing and booking structures. Importantly, the funds raised will be reinvested locally—supporting infrastructure, events and destination marketing that help attract visitors and encourage longer stays. These improvements can bring indirect benefits across the wider business community.
With over a year to prepare, SMEs have time to review pricing, update systems and stay engaged with how the levy is developed—helping ensure it works in a way that supports both visitors and local businesses.
