Stirling Council Discretionary Fund for local businesses

Stirling Council is encouraging businesses from across the region that have missed out on other forms of COVID-19 funding to make early applications to its Discretionary Fund.

The portal goes live 20th January and provides eligible businesses with £2,000 to support them through the latest Coronavirus restrictions.

The fund is targeted at small and microbusinesses (50 employees or fewer) and the self-employed and takes into consideration local priorities and gaps in support.

It is specifically aimed at businesses and individuals that haven’t received other Scottish Government financial support introduced since October 2020.

These include:

  • businesses operating from premises but not registered for Non-Domestic Rates, part of a shared property where rates are included as part of lease or home based.  For example, small and micro businesses in shared commercial space providing in-person services who do not have their own business rates assessment (eg yards, workshops, business centres)
  • businesses not required to close or legally modify their operations, but that have experienced restricted trading and for demonstrable supply-chain challenges (over 50% trade affected by COVID-19 restrictions)
  • Directors of Limited Companies
  • Self-employed, not benefiting from Self-employed Income Support Scheme (SEISS) or Newly Self-employed Hardship Fund (NSEHF)
  • Sub-contractors

Convenor of Stirling Council’s Finance and Economy Committee, Councillor Margaret Brisley said: “I encourage small and micro businesses to make early application to the Discretionary Fund.   This fund has been developed to take into account all those that have been unable to access previous schemes”

Vice Convenor Councillor Alison Laurie said: “The Discretionary Fund will be welcomed across the Stirling Council area by all those who have previously missed out, and we are determined to support as many businesses as we can, as quickly as possible.

Applications to this fund should be submitted by Wednesday 10 February 2021 by 5pm

Stirling Council and partners business support service, including telephone and online support, will continue to be available and advise businesses where possible, focusing on Covid-19 financial support packages and up-to-date information on existing and new regulations http://www.investinstirling.com/.
