At the end of 2021, as part of STEP’s commitment to our community, STEP launched a new Corporate Volunteering Programme and as part of the International day of charity, is celebrating the first volunteering days that have taken place.
The new Corporate Volunteering Programme, which forms part of the company’s Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSER) plan, encourages the company’s 30 employees to actively seek out and participate in volunteering opportunities throughout Stirling for a cause of their choice, contributing meaningfully to our communities.
Vicky Murphy, HR Manager said
“Having been built on a community wealth building model nearly 40 years ago and with five locations across Stirling, we are increasingly aware of our impact on the communities in which STEP and our customers live and work. As a long-standing established business, we have a responsibility to be an example of change and our wider team share these values.
Our Corporate Volunteering Programme along with many other sustainable we are working on means that we are doing everything we can to improve our surrounding area. This came from our employee voice-driven employer engagement group and therefore all of our staff can choose to contribute to any cause close to their heart.”
The first staff to undertake a volunteering opportunity was Vicky Murphy, STEP’s HR Manager and Simon Orr, Business Support Adviser.
Vicky and Simon spent the day with STEP HR client Camphill Blair Drummond. Camphill Blair Drummond is a rural community in Stirlingshire which offers a home, meaningful activities and opportunities for personal development to circa 200 adults with learning disabilities and other special needs. The pair received a tour of the community, met with some of the staff and residents then helped with some landscaping and gardening duties.
Simon Orr, Business Adviser said: “Supporting local charities and giving back to our local community is so important to all of us at STEP, so it was great news when these volunteer days were introduced. I was delighted to join Vicky as the first to take part in the programme and look forward to myself and the rest of the team doing more in the future.”
