2 MINUTE INTERVIEW: Penny Hallidie

Name: Penny Hallidie

Job Title: Owner, Oakbank Massage Therapy

How long has your business been going? Just over 18 months

First job: Legal Executive working in residential conveyancing

Favourite place to relax: At home with a hot cuppa.

What inspired you to start your own business? As the children were getting older I was looking for a new challenge. I had personal experience of how effective massage can be, so I wanted to learn more about it.

How would you describe my business? I carry out seated massage and Swedish massage in the workplace which can have huge health and wellbeing benefits to employees. It can help relieve stress in employees,
increase productivity and reduce staff turnover and absenteeism by
increasing staff morale. There are therefore great benefits to the
employer.

What do you most enjoy about having your own business? I like being able to make business decisions and managing a good work-life balance.

My 2018 growth plans: I am planning to take a course in Massage Therapy for people living with cancer to expand my knowledge and allow me to help people at a difficult time.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I love running and at the time of writing I am preparing to run the Loch Katrine Marathon.

How do you relax? I enjoy sitting down in front of the fire and watching a fun film with my family!

What are your top priorities? My family, and to all be healthy and
happy.

What inspires you? So many things! People are capable of such amazing achievements – every day you hear stories of someone overcoming
significant challenges against all odds.

What are your next steps for your business? I have just met with a Business Gateway Advisor and I’m getting help to set up my social media pages and website.
