Stravaig, a Stirling-based clothing specialising in high-quality outdoor wear, is expanding its reach and strengthening its brand thanks to tailored support from STEP. Producing durable, weather-resistant clothing, including outdoor changing robes, waterproof hats and practical outdoor clothing, Stravaig has built a strong reputation among customers who value performance and reliability in all conditions. However, like many growing businesses, it faced the challenge of reducing reliance on third-party platforms and building a more direct relationship with its customers.
Targeted Support to Drive Online Growth
With guidance from STEP’s Rural Business Support Adviser Traci Titterington, Stravaig accessed UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) support to enhance its digital presence.
A key focus was improving search engine optimisation (SEO) to increase visibility and drive traffic directly to the company’s website. Previously, much of Stravaig’s sales activity had been reliant on Amazon, but by strengthening its online presence, the business is now better positioned to grow independent sales channels and build stronger customer connections.
Building Brand Presence Through Events
Alongside digital improvements, STEP has supported Stravaig in raising its profile through in-person events and networking opportunities. By attending local events such as The Drymen Show and the STEP Summer BBQ and Business Support Open Day, Stravaig is able to showcase its products, connect with new customers and engage with other businesses. These opportunities are helping to build brand recognition while reinforcing its roots within the local community.
Supporting Sustainable Rural Growth
This intervention highlights the importance of accessible, practical support for rural businesses looking to scale. By combining digital development with real-world networking opportunities, STEP is helping businesses like Stravaig not only to grow, but grow sustainably. For Stravaig, the result is a stronger, more visible business with greater control over its future—ready to reach new audiences while staying true to its rural origins, designing practical, hard-wearing clothing inspired by the demands of outdoor life.
