Just over one year on: STEP reflects on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over a year ago, we were planning for a successful financial 20/21, little did we know that in just a few days our lives would be changed dramatically.

A year on and to say it’s been a tough year is an understatement.

Here’s an overview of what our year has been like and how we’ve worked to get businesses through this crisis:

As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak took hold, small business owners and self-employed individuals were understandably worried about how it would impact them over the coming months. Immediately Stirling’s Business Support organisations including Stirling Council, STEP, Business Gateway Stirling, Forth Valley Chamber, Federation of Small Businesses, VisitScotland, Scottish Enterprise and Stirling BID, formed a strategic COVID-19 response group to streamline support and create a one-point contact for businesses.

This included a local COVID Support helpline staffed by our Business Support team. In the first three months, we had over 260 calls.

Businesses based at STEP sites, whilst recognising and working within the Government guidelines, adapted to using tools such as virtual conferencing and e-commerce to continue trading the best they could.

We adapted to ensure our tenants, who were deemed essential, were navigating our buildings safely, our staff who were essential on-site were protected and we were ready for the various re-openings that took place throughout the year.
