From automating the recruitment process to providing personalised training plans and improving workplace safety, AI is transforming HR in ways that many of us never thought possible. Vicky Murphy, STEP’s HR Manager takes a closer look at the top ten ways AI is changing HR in today’s workplace.
Automated Recruiting: Say goodbye to manual recruitment processes – thankfully! – and hello to AI-powered recruiting tools like LinkedIn Talent Solutions, HiringSolved, Recruit CRM and more. With these tools, you can sit back, relax, and let AI analyse CVs, identify top candidates, and even send personalised messages to arrange interviews and perform informal pre-interview questions.
Who needs a human recruiter when you’ve got AI on your side? Well, whilst AI can make the process easier it’s important to remember that they can’t replace the value that humans bring to the recruitment process. Human recruiters have the ability to build personal relationships with candidates which can be difficult for AI-powered recruiting tools to replicate. Sometimes trusting your gut is worth its weight in gold. Candidates often value the personal touch of a recruiter who takes the time to understand their unique skills and experiences, as well as their career goals and provide feedback and advice along the way.
Whilst AI can certainly help to streamline the recruitment process and identify top candidates, it’s important to remember that these tools are only as good as the data they’re fed. In other words, if a company’s job descriptions, the application process, and candidate evaluation methods are flawed or biased, then the AI tools will simply replicate these flaws and biases, potentially resulting in a less diverse and inclusive workforce and a high turnover of staff.
Bias Reduction: Let’s face it, we all have unconscious biases that affect our decision-making processes, even in recruiting and hiring. But with AI-powered tools such as Texito, GapJumpers, HireVue and more, we can reduce bias by removing identifying information like names and addresses from resumes and using data-driven analysis to identify the best candidates. Now that’s a win for diversity and inclusion!
Predictive Analytics: Predicting the future has always been a pipe dream, but with AI-powered HR analytics tools, it’s becoming a reality. These tools can help predict employee turnover, identify flight risks, and even determine which employees are likely to succeed or need additional training. Who needs a crystal ball when you’ve got AI? Just some examples of Predictive HR AI tools are:
- Workday Prism Analytics: AI-powered tool for insights into workforce performance, engagement, and HR metrics.
- Visier: AI-powered workforce analytics platform for insights into employee performance, engagement, and retention.
- PredictiveHR: AI-powered workforce analytics platform for predicting employee turnover, identifying flight risks, and providing insights into engagement and productivity.
Employee Engagement: Want to improve employee engagement? Look no further than AI-powered chatbots, like those from Talkpush and Mya. These chatbots provide 24/7 support and can answer common HR questions, freeing up HR managers to focus on more important tasks – like planning the office Christmas party.
4. Training and Development: Personalised training and development plans are no longer a pipe dream, thanks to AI-powered tools like Mya, you can provide training plans based on an employee’s skills, goals, and career path, all without having to lift a finger.
5. Performance Management: The dreaded performance review process is no longer a nightmare (yes we know its hated) thanks to AI-powered tools that can automate the process. These tools can analyse data on employee performance and provide insights to managers, making the process more efficient and effective. An example of such tools are Engagedly, Kazoo, Lattice and ADP Performance Management.
6. Employee Benefits: Managing employee benefits can be a headache and you absolutely can’t please everyone, but AI-powered tools like Zenefits can help. These tools can manage employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and holiday leave, all without requiring you to do the math—the dream!
7. Compliance and Workplace Safety: HR compliance and workplace safety are crucial but time-consuming tasks. AI tools can streamline these processes and improve efficiency. Examples of AI-powered tools for HR compliance include ADP Compliance Solutions and ComplianceHR, while workplace safety tools like Fitbit can monitor employee health and wellness, reducing accidents and improving safety.
8. Data-Driven Decision Making: Last but not least, AI-powered analytics tools can help HR managers make data-driven decisions, improving HR processes and ultimately benefiting the organisation as a whole. With AI on your side, you’ll be making decisions like a boss in no time.
By making recruiting more efficient, reducing bias, improving employee engagement, and providing data-driven insights, AI is transforming the HR landscape.
While AI is revolutionising the HR industry, it’s important to note that as much as AI can streamline processes and provide valuable insights, it’s still up to human HR professionals to prompt these tools appropriately, interpret and act on the data.
Furthermore, HR is about more than just data and processes – it’s about people. AI can help identify potential candidates and even analyse their personalities and traits, but it’s up to HR professionals to make the final hiring decisions and build relationships with employees.
It’s also important to consider the ethical implications of AI in HR. While AI can remove biases and improve diversity and inclusion, it’s important to ensure that the algorithms and data used are fair and unbiased, which is where a human comes in.
