A STEP in history: Stirling Enterprise Park Takes Next STEP

Throwback Thursday:

One Thursday every month we are taking a look back through STEP’s archives at business successes of the past.

This month we are looking back to the year 2000 when work began on Stirling Enterprise Park’s major extension.

Back in 2000, the latest phase of the STEP development was underway. The £1.3 million extension created 16 new workspace units and converted an old boiler house into a two-storey office block.

This extension added 16,000 sq ft to the 70,000 sq ft office and workspace accommodation which had already been let at STEP. The north and west elevations of the industrial park were revamped to complement the Forthside development. STEP Executive Director Derek Gavin said: “A major feature of the new Forthside site will be its stunning location and the STEP Board felt it was important to modernise the appearance of our adjacent property, which had retained its pre-war design since it was built as a carpet factory.”

The contract included demolishing some of the factory buildings, carrying out improvement work and landscaping. Work was also carried out on the outside walls which involved complete recladding in stone effect blocking and installation of double-glazed windows.

The first phase of STEP was opened in 1985 and there were 100 units prior to the extension in 2000, almost all of which were full.

Today, 21 years on, there are almost 100 businesses in various industries located at Stirling Enterprise Park, making it a thriving business community. Dance studios, interior designers, gyms, photography galleries, cake bakers, producers and caterers, STEP home a variety of businesses under one roof.
