This year’s business festival will celebrate investment in Stirlingshire and the rest of Scotland.
Organised by STEP, Stirling Business Month is a month-long programme of business events held throughout the Stirling region during the month of May.
Gordon Bell, STEP Chief Executive said: “We’re really looking forward to a stimulating and varied programme of business-related events this May. From start-up companies to SME’s and entrepreneurs, Stirling Business Month’s range of events have been designed to celebrate businesses from all sectors. This is an exciting time for the Stirling area, and there are a lot of plans in place to drive investment, and to create more jobs. That’s exactly why we felt it was only right to give Stirling Business Month 2017 the theme Investing in Our Future.”
Gordon continued: “Feedback from 2016’s Stirling Business Month attendees was very positive, and this year we expect to attract around 1,000 delegates from Stirling and around Scotland. We are also thrilled to have secured sponsorship from French Duncan – Professional Chartered Accountants.”
The programme of events will kick off with an opening conference on Tuesday, May 2nd. On the line-up is Steven Drost from Codebase, Scotland’s largest technology incubator. Following on from the announcement that Codebase will open an office in Stirling, Steven, the company’s Chief Strategy Officer, will explain what progress has been made on the city’s Digital District.
Former Scottish rugby international Iain Milne will also speak at May’s launch event, as well as representatives from local businesses, and Alan Mahon, founder of social enterprise Brewgooder. Brewgooder uses craft beer to help deliver clean water to charities around the world. Dr Tanya Ewing, who received an honorary degree in 2015 for her contribution to innovation and entrepreneurship, will talk about her successful career. Stirling Council Chief Executive Stewart Carruth will also talk about Stirling: Alive with Scotland, and demonstrate why this is a brand for local people, driven by local people.
The Stirling Business Month 2017 programme offers a wide variety of events and workshops – from a Women in Enterprise conference, to a debate about the Corporate Journey. Workshops about business rates, skills and Modern Apprenticeships are also available.
Graeme Finnie, Managing Partner at French Duncan said:
“Stirling Business Month is a fantastic initiative and we are really pleased to be the sponsors once again in 2017. As accountants and business advisors, we offer professional services and advice to organisations of all sizes to help them achieve their ambitions – that includes entrepreneurs, owner-managed businesses, partnerships, companies and individuals.
“Stirling Business Month’s theme for this year – Investing in Our Future – is one that we fully support and endorse. Following the success of last year’s initiative, we are looking forward to another exciting and dynamic programme of events in 2017.”
Rural businesses will be the focus of an event in Drymen on May 23rd, with an emphasis on family businesses and diversification. STEP’s Charity of the Year, The Ripple Retreat, will be opened by Lorraine Kelly on May 12th, and the 2017 programme will conclude with an Enterprise Festival on May 31st.
