Employee Contracts and Handbooks

Contracts of Employment

As a company, you are legally required to provide a new employee with a contract with the terms and conditions of their employment written within 8 weeks of their start date. Best practice, however, is to have this contract signed before an employee begins working for you.

This contract should cover all of the conditions of employment and set out how you want that individual to work within your company and what they will receive in return.

At STEP HR we can provide you with the right contact for all your staff and we can advise you on pay, benefits, pensions and ensure you meet all of the legal requirements.

Employee Handbooks

An employee handbook becomes more important as a business grows but can be crucial to set expectations for all and bring together the key policies that are integral to the business.

We can ensure your employee handbook not only sets out the rules within your business but the companies culture and brand.

STEP HR can ensure your employment contracts and handbooks reflect up to date legislation and all of your policies are correct.

How we can help

  • Contract writing
  • Employee Handbook writing
  • Ensuring legal requirements are covered
  • Checking policies to ensure they up to date

Dealing with Disciplinaries and Grievances

Staff disciplinaries and grievance issues are not something any business wants to deal with but by working with STEP HR you can be reassured that you comply with the required legal process and have all the support you and your employees need.

Policies

A disciplinary and grievance policy is something every business should have. We will work with you to ensure you are covered for every eventuality and your staff are fully aware of producers to meet your business needs.

Staff Misconduct and Gross Misconduct

There are two main categories of disciplinaries:
Misconduct for minor infringements
Gross misconduct

Either of these can result in the summary dismissal of an employee and at STEP HR we ensure the best outcome for your business with the least impact as possible.

We will conduct a lawful thorough investigation into any employee misconduct or grievance. An investigating officer cannot be involved with any subsequent hearty and this is where using STEP HR provides impartially for businesses who don’t have this resource in house.

Capability Policies and Guidance

Many businesses have some employees who underperform because they don’t have the necessary skills to do their job, or have had a long period of absence that is unfair to the rest of the team.

To handle these situations an employer needs a capability policy and guidance on how to manage an employee back to full performance or, if necessary, out of their business.

Particular care is required when handling cases of ill health dismissal to ensure you will not be faced with a disability discrimination claim from any previous employee.

If you need support with any of this issues please get in touch here.

How we can help

  • Policy writing and implementation
  • Capability Policies and Guidance
  • Conflict Management
  • Dismissal/Termination of Employment
  • Settlement Agreements
  • Employment Tribunal Management
