description

Established in 2003, Later Life Training is a non-profit organisation based in Killin, that provides evidence based training for a wide variety of professions working with older people to help increase uptake and adherence to exercise which helps maintain independence, reduce falls and improve outcomes after stroke. With a range of courses to suit the needs and skills of their students, Later Life Training’s commitment is to a wide continuum of provision so that all older people, even those who are very frail, can improve their fitness with confidence. Later Life Training is made up of a family of people passionate about their work, from the Directors and Office Staff, to the team of 20 freelance tutors.

Business Challenge

At the time of meeting Business Gateway the company was looking to streamline and integrate its current IT processes and systems to help improve its overall efficiency, specifically focusing on its current database system, Access 2010, and how this could be used more effectively.

How we helped

Via the specialist support service, (Funded by Business Gateway and European Regional Development Fund) Later Life Training was granted fully funded support with an IT Business Advisor. This funding allowed the IT specialist to undertake a full review of Access which included its current uses throughout the organisation, its required outputs, ways in which to improve the performance and potential for the system to support future business development.

A major pain point within the organisation was the time in which was dedicated to mail merge activities and therefore a significant part of this work has resulted in Later Life Training benefiting from the development and implementation of a working solution which integrates fully with Access 2010 to reduce physical paper use and eliminate double handling.

David Riddell of Later Life commented, “Being able to access this resource is invaluable to SMEs such as Later Life Training where people and finance resources are limited. This development work will help us progress and without it, may have impacted on our future growth.”
