Albion Drilling Group Ltd. was established in 1986 and is now one of the UK’s largest specialist drilling contractors. From its head office in Stirling and regional office in Dublin the company employs over 30 staff and operates contracts throughout the UK and Ireland from the Channel Islands in the South to the Shetland Isles in the North.
With the expected upturn in the construction sector predicting future growth opportunities, Albion recognised the need to ensure its internal functions were operating effectively to ensure it was ready and able to take on new contracts.
The company initially identified that its HR function could benefit from some expertise. Through the specialist support service at Business Gateway Stirling, Albion was able to access three days of fully funded HR expertise.

This funding provided enabled a HR specialist to work with the company to review current practices and identify strengths and weaknesses within HR outlining key areas which could benefit from intervention.
The support provided by Business Gateway resulted in the development of current and new HR procedures, ensuring it was also compliant with current legislation, including;
- Development of appropriate employee contracts and staff handbooks with policies relevant to the company and compliant with UK employment law.
- Formal employee appraisal scheme developed and ready to be rolled-out across the company
- Directors Service Agreement developed and implemented as required by the Company Act 2006
